General Update

Logan
-He is still a sports fanatic, currently playing football, then it will be basketball, and we are getting pressure from coaches and other parents to put him in baseball...
-He is in 6th grade and has lots of new friends since moving into the public middle school.
-He uses several strange phrases ... such as when something is cool or neat or generally good, it is now referred to as "funky cheese" or "beast".  When he is excited or happy about something we hear, "here we go paw paw".  When something is NOT cool or is lame, or just does not generally please him it is referred to as "fail".  When the big guy and/or I make our own attempts at using these phrases, he responds with an eye-roll because it is evidently a fail...ure?

Sam
-He took guitar lessons, picked it up quickly, and then just as quickly, he got bored with it.
-He is 3 weeks into 5th grade and is over it.  He has a lot of homework every evening and there have been several tears of frustration.
-He has joined the art guild, which is only twice a month, and the only thing he is interested in.  It is a constant struggle to find a balance between him and Logan and making sure he gets as much attention as Logan, who we are always adjusting our schedules for.
-Finally served at Friday mass for the first time.  And he survived.  He was scheduled twice last school-year, and had a full blown all out panic attack at the idea.  So he was replaced and then rescheduled ... not for a week later, or a month later ... but for a year later, which was a fantastic idea.

Maria
-Kindergarten
-Is finally allowed to hang on the monkey bars at school, a coveted activity when in 4K.
-Finally gets to eat hot lunch with the rest of the school, yet more often than not chooses from peanut butter and jelly pile.
-Increasingly mouthy.
-Also increasingly pretty.
-I'm still not sure if those go hand in hand.

Estella
-Lots of changes now that the older kids are in school.
-Now that the older kids are in school, we have started potty training in full force.
-we have shampooed the carpets quite often lately.
-Her speech is delayed quite a bit, so the ASL book is once again out and available.
-Now that the older kids are in school, there aren't 3 extra people at her beck and call, so she's finding that she actually needs to TALK.  With WORDS.
-There are a lot of tears and screaming and crying before she'll finally blurt out her words, which is the only way I will respond to her needs.
-She currently has a love/hate relationship with me.
-She's my big helper with laundry and cleaning.

The big guy
-Not much new with this guy other than he broke his ankle last winter, had 2 surgeries, was still in pain, now moved on to cortisone shots.
-Oh, and he's been named the usher coordinator at church.

Other Stuff
We've had Willa the Puggle for a few years, and Olive the cat for a little over a year.
Add to that Hubert the Boxer pup.  He is 5 months old now and towers over Willa the Puggle.  We officially have a colt in the house.

More Other Stuff
We're expecting!

  1. I am so excited for all the wonderful things that are happening in your life!

Also I hear the word "fail" no fewer than 50 times in a single day from my 7th grader. And yeah, she doesn't appreciate it when I use her slang words either!

My youngest was also having a speech delay and only spoke 5 words. We were discussing speech therapy, but on instinct, I held out until after school started. Sure enough, he's talking more now that he doesn't have anyone else talking for him.
